Game 1 – vs Baker University – W 6-5
Mac got on the board in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead and then added four more in the fourth to give them a 5-1 advantage with just three innings remaining. Baker scored all of their runs in the final four innings, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and their final in the seventh. MC saw their lead brought to a tie in the top of the seventh inning but was able to score one in the bottom half to take the 6-5 victory.
Ariel McGee (Denver, Colo.) and Whitney Miller (Valley Center, Kan.) each logged two hits to lead the team which totaled seven for the contest; Amanda Darrow (Jasper, Mo.) also made it aboard safely twice as she tabbed a hit and a base on balls. Cassandra Mereno (Wichita, Kan.) led the way in Runs Batted In with two coming on a double in the fourth inning.
Freshman Ciara Archer (Denver, Colo.) recorded her first win from the mound this season, throwing the complete game; she surrendered five runs, three that were earned, while tallying two walks and two strike outs.
Game 2 – vs Hastings College – L 11-3
The second outing of the tournament did not go as well for Mac as they struggled to bring their runners around, leaving plenty of Bulldogs stranded. The squad gave up five runs in the third and again in the fourth before they were finally able to make it on the board in the fifth with three runs; Hastings brought around one in the seventh to force the run-rule, giving the Lady Mustangs the 11-3 win.
McGee once again tabulated two hits and also made it on via a walk; Mariah Wedel (McPherson, Kan.) recorded two knocks as well and joined McGee in scoring once. All three runs were scored on a Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) home run. Six Bulldogs logged one hit in the team's loss. McGee also stole three bases giving her 10 on the year.
Kaiser started as McPherson's pitcher and went two and a third before being relieved; she gave up five earned runs off of seven hits and a walk to her 16 batters faced. Archer came in to finish out the third inning and pitched the rest of the contest; she allowed six runs in her one and two thirds innings pitched.
The 'Dogs have their home tournament this weekend on March 14th and 15th; the first game for MC is at 12:00 p.m. (CT) on Friday against Nebraska Wesleyan University.
