Box Score 2 McPherson, Kan. - Bulldog softball split with the KCAC leading Ottawa University Lady Braves Wednesday night; Mac lost the first 9-1 in six innings and won the second 7-6.
Game 1 – vs. Ottawa University – L 9-1 – 6 Innings
Ottawa would get the scoring going in the top half of the second scoring one run; they would also add another run in the third. The Braves tacked on two more runs in the fifth to make the lead 4-0. Mac scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth; the team struggled to get anything going in the first contest. Ottawa scored another five runs in the sixth to take an eight run lead and after a scoreless sixth for the 'Dogs the game would end on a run-rule, 9-1.
Mariah Wedel (McPherson, Kan.), Emily Davis (McPherson, Kan.) and McKenna Deckard (Hutchinson, Kan.) were the only Mac players to get a hit in their opening competition with OU. Four MC players got on via walks.
Kaila Atkinson (Magnolia, Texas) started the game for Mac and went five and one-third innings surrendering seven earned runs and one unearned run on 14 hits with one walk. Mallory Fowler (Wichita, Kan.) pitched a third of an inning allowing an earned run with one hit and three walks. Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) rounded out Mac's pitching with a third of an inning allowing zero runs.
Game 2 – vs. Ottawa University – W 7-6
This time, Mac got the bats rolling scoring three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Ottawa would come right back with three of their own in the top of the second but Mac would retake the lead with two runs of their own in the second, giving them a 5-3 advantage. MC scored one run in the third and again in the fourth to make the lead 7-3. Ariel McGee made a huge catch in the fifth robbing Ottawa of a two-run home run that ended the inning. Ottawa made things interesting scoring three runs in the sixth after a controversial call kept OU alive. Mac was able to hold off the heavy-hitting Braves, winning the game, 7-6.
McGee (Denver, Colo.) lead the dogs in hitting going three for three with a home run, a walk, and two runs batted in. Amanda Darrow (Jasper, Mo.), Davis and Deckard had two hits apiece. Darrow also added three RBI and had a home run of her own.
Kaiser pitched a complete game going all seven innings tallying six earned runs on 10 hits and three walks earning the win.
Mac is back on the field on Friday the 18th as they travel to Wichita to take on Friends University; the conference doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. (CT) start.
