Box Score 2 McPherson, Kan. – It was a set of quick games between McPherson College and Friends University on Saturday as the Lady Falcons took both games, 11-6 in the opening contest and a no-hitter in the second, winning 16-0 after five innings.
Game 1 – at Friends University – L 11-6
After allowing a run in the bottom of the first inning, McPherson put one up of their own in the second to tie things up; unfortunately, Friends scored four in the bottom half and took a commanding 5-1 lead. The Dirt 'Dogs responded with a three-run inning in the third to pull within one. The Falcons would score six runs over the next three innings and held off a valiant effort by Mac in the seventh to claim the 11-6 win.
The Bulldogs recorded 10 hits in the first contest of the day and were led in hits by Ariel McGee (Denver, Colo.) who went 3-of-4, all being singles; she also stole two bases in the game. Catcher Amanda Darrow (Jasper, Mo.)Darrow logged two hits, both homeruns, while five others had one; Darrow got on twice via walks, making it aboard all four times she came to the plate.
Pitching the complete game was Kaila Atkinson (Magnolia, Texas) who surrendered 11 runs, nine that were earned, off of 11 hits and three walks.
Game 2 – at Friends University – L 16-0 – 5 Innings
After two scoreless innings, Friends exploded for 11 in the third inning; they backed that up with five more in the fourth, making it a quick win.
It was a rough one all around for McPherson in the second outing of the day. The 'Dogs made it to first just one time as Darrow was hit by a pitch. Mac made it to the plate a mere 19 times in the five-inning contest.
Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) went for the first three and two-thirds before being pulled off the mound; she gave up 10 runs on 13 hits and one walk while striking out two. Atkinson and Mallory Fowler (Wichita, Kan.) finished off the game, allowing six runs in their combined one-third inning of work.
It's Senior Day for McPherson when they hit the field next. The 'Dogs are scheduled to take on Tabor College at Wall Park in McPherson on April 22nd; the doubleheader is set to start at 5:00 p.m. (CT)
