Box Score McPherson, Kan. – For the second-straight year, the Lady Bulldog volleyball team has started the season with a victory over Manhattan Christian College. The 2014 squad took down the Crusaders 3-1 winning 25-20 once and 25-17 twice.
The first set of the match went very smooth for the Lady 'Dogs and the second was even better as a couple long runs put Mac in front early and they coasted from there. MCC was determined not to leave without a set and took the third 25-15 using a quick attack game to push past McPherson. In the fourth, the Bulldogs made it known whose house they were playing in, taking the set and match.
Cortlyne Huppe topped the kill chart for MC, tabbing 10 on 18 swings; the middle hitter also had three assisted blocks. Sophomore Micah Murray came alive late to grab seven kills and tallied zero errors on her 13 attempts. Lindsay Moss rocked four blocks to lead the team and also added four kills on a team-high 20 tries. Setter/right-side player Phoebe Barton led the 'Dogs in assists with 17 and was followed by Taylor Johnson who had 13. The trio of Johnson, Maci Grimes and Emily Warner combined for 35 of the squad's 55 digs with Grimes leading all Mac players with 13.
The Lady Bulldogs now head off to Florida for the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Labor Day Volleyfest hosted by Northwood University. They will play four matches in two days, starting with Ave Maria (Fla.) on the 29th at 10:00 a.m. (CT)
