Box Score McPherson, Kan. – In what's becoming a very nice trend, MC men's soccer has won their third straight and hasn't given up a goal in over a week. The 'Dogs shot by Mount Marty College on Saturday, 3-0.
"We were really good defensively again today," said head coach Doug Quint. "It's nice to get a third straight shut-out. Our offensive dictated the game for us as we had a lot of possession which created multiple chances."
Those chances started early and came often for Mac as they took three shots in the first five minutes and 16 in the opening half. Nick Torres scored what turned out to be the game winning goal just over 20 minutes into the match. The Bulldogs took another 16 shots in the second half, this time finding the goal twice as Tito Ruiz blasted a penalty kick to the back of the net and Kevin Aka chested one in from a Morgan Quintana pass.
Out of the 32 shots for MC, Alex Ronneburg and Oscar Cortez took 10 as they each attempted five in the match. Aka had four chances as did the other Kevin, Kevin Ndongo. Ruiz, Ndongo, and Torres each placed a team-high two balls on target.
The Bulldog defense, which rarely gets enough credit, allowed just four total shots and only two were on frame. Since the formation of this back line, Quintana, Leonel Martinez, Danny Calleja, and Dinesh Prasad, Mac has held their opponents to just 22 shots, 11 on frame, and zero goals.
McPherson's next two matches will come in the Mountain Time Zone as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah next Thursday. The team will play Westminster College on September 19th and then the University of Great Falls on the 21st.
