Box Score Salt Lake City, Utah – It has now been four games and over two weeks since the Bulldog soccer team has allowed a goal. The unit shut out the Westminster College Griffins en route to a 1-0 victory in their opening game of their Utah trip.
"That is a good team we beat today and it took an entire team effort," said Coach Quint. "We stayed organized defensively and finally broke them down."
Despite taking eight shots in the opening 45 minutes, the 'Dogs failed to get one past the keeper; fortunately, they were able to hold WC to just three tries at goal and no goals bringing about a 0-0 draw at the midway point of the contest. In the second, Mac continued to push and on their sixth attempt in the final period scored on a rebound that was smashed to the back of the net by Kevin Ndongo in the 74th minute with the assist going to Oscar Cortez. MC allowed just one more shot to the Griffin offense and that was saved by Aaron Parrott, preserving the Bulldogs' 1-0 triumph.
McPherson took 14 shots in the 90-minute match with eight making it between the pipes; the team was led by Nick Torres with his three tries including a team-high two on frame. Eight Bulldogs took a shot in the contest with seven of them putting their attempt on target.
In goal, Parrott recorded the win for the 'Dogs, saving three Westminster tries in his fourth victory of the year.
The second and final game of the Utah tour for MC is on Sunday the 21st as they square off against the University of Great Falls (Mont.) with the match beginning at 12:00 p.m. (CT). Live video. Live stats.
