Box Score McPherson, Kan. – Three tight sets did not end in McPherson College's favor as they dropped a three-set match to Friends University. The Bulldogs move to 6-8 on the year and are 1-4 in conference.
In the opening set, Mac jumped out to a quick lead but a timeout by Friends calmed the Lady Falcons down and they battled back and eventually took the lead. FU had a few mini-runs but they got stuck in the 20s and McPherson took advantage pushing closer; unfortunately for MC, they fell just short and lost 25-22. It was Friends that took the early lead in the second set but the Bulldogs stayed right on the Falcons' heels; a late run by Friends gave them the set 25-19. In the last set of the match, the Lady Falcons again jumped out fast but McPherson again kept it close and tied it up midway through the set; a 10-2 run by Friends allowed them to coast to a 25-18 win.
Cortlyne Huppe tied her career-high in kills with 17 on 29 tries. As a team, McPherson struggled putting the ball on the ground in bounds as their kill percentage was just 9.3%. Phoebe Barton tallied 15 assists while Taylor Johnson was right behind with her 12. Emily Warner totaled 17 digs to lead the team.
The 'Dogs have a busy weekend as they take on Ottawa University on Friday the 26th and then travel to Bethany College on the 27th; the match with the Braves begins at 7:00 p.m. (CT) while the contest with the Swedes is set for 2:00 p.m.
