Box Score McPherson, Kan. – The score may just say 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs but Mac completely controlled the game, outshooting Midland University 27-7 and holding off a late Warrior surge for their first victory of the year.
"This was a solid performance on both sides of the ball today," said Coach Quint. "We moved the ball well and created a lot. We have to be more clinical in front of the goal. To create 27 chances and only score one goal is something we will improve on. Overall, it was a good performance for us."
McPherson's German, Alex Ronneburg, scored the game's lone goal less than two minutes into the match. The 'Dogs didn't let up and took four more shots before the 10-minute mark and ended the first half with 16. In the second, MC kept the pace but couldn't get another one by Midland's Freshman goal keeper. The Warriors tried to find some rhythm but McPherson wasn't having any of it, holding on for the 1-0 victory.
Oscar Cortez took eight shots for the Bulldogs and placed three between the pipes, both being team highs. Nick Torres had four attempts at goal and was followed by Kevin Ndongo and Ronneburg who each tabbed three.
The Warriors got off a few shots but goalie Aaron Parrott only had to make three saves in the game; this was the first clean-sheet of the year for the sophomore goalie.
It's a McPherson rivalry match next on the docket for the Bulldogs as they take on the Tigers of Central Christian College Wednesday the 10th with start time set for 4:00 p.m. (CT)
