MC Loses 4-3 Shootout with Midland

McPherson, Kan. – It was a high scoring affair in the Saturday match between the Lady Bulldogs and Midland University as seven goals were scored between the two teams; the Warriors won the contest 4-3, scoring the game winner in the 84th minute.

Mac got on the board first as Haley Anderson scored on a Rhea Vale assist 21 minutes into the game.  MU tied it up a few minutes later and the game made it to halftime tied at 1-1.  The 'Dogs came out and Cydney Lewis slotted an Anderson pass to put them back on top.  The Warriors quickly responded and scored themselves less than a minute later and then again in the 73rd minute, going up 3-2.  McPherson's Vale snuck in a ball off a free kick to tie the game up again with 13 minutes to play.  The goal that decided the game came in the 84th minute by Midland, moving McPherson to 1-2-1 on the year.

McPherson put up 14 shots and placed five between the posts.  Both Anderson and Gabriela Navarro put four towards the goal with two of Anderson's going on goal to lead the team.

Sophomore Caitlyn Blagrave started the game for MC between the pipes and would have gone the distance but was injured in the 71st minute; she made one save and allowed two goals.  Senior goalie Tori Verdieck played the final minutes, giving up a pair of goals including the game winner to pick up the loss.

The next match for the Lady 'Dogs is September 10th as they face Central Christian College for the annual cross-town rivalry game; kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CT)
