McPherson, Kan. – It was an electric atmosphere in the Sports Center on Monday as the battle for McPherson was fought by the Bulldogs and the Tigers of Central Christian College.  After three intense sets, McPherson College was victorious 3-0. 

MC started off strong in the opening set, taking the first four points.  Central battled back and got within a couple midway through and things stayed close the rest of the way.  McPherson was the first to 20 and won five of the last nine points to claim a 25-22 win.  In the second, it was the Tigers that got up early, leading 9-5 anchored by a seven-point run.  Mac answered by scoring seven of the next nine to take a lead they would not relinquish; the 'Dogs won 25-19.  The final set was all McPherson as they started with a 10-3 run on the frustrated CCC squad; Mac completed the sweep with their 25-13 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs had a positive .287 hitting percentage and were led by Cortlyne Huppe in kills; the middle-hitter recorded 13 on 29 swings with three errors for a .345 %.  Taryn Lee and Taylor Johnson each added seven kills off 16 attempts.  Johnson also tallied a team-high 20 assists and had a second-best nine digs.  The digging champion was Emily Warner who ended the night with 14.

As a team McPherson out-killed Central 43-25; MC tabbed 17 in the first set, 14 in the second, and 12 in the third as opposed to the Tigers' 12, 7, and 6. 

Central and McPherson face each other again on October 4th at CCC.

The 'Dogs are at home for their next bout as they host the Southwestern College Moundbuilders on September 10th; JV will play at 5:30 p.m. (CT) with varsity starting at 7:00.
