Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bulldogs Struggle to Score against Moundbuilders

McPherson, Kan. – It was a very low scoring night for the McPherson College women's basketball team on Thursday as they were defeated by RV Southwestern College 81-48.  The Lady Bulldogs now sit at 2-17 on the year and are 1-6 against the KCAC.

The start of the game went about as well as it could for MC as they jumped ahead 12-5 within the first few minutes; their lead extended to eight around the midway point of the half.  An 18-1 run by Southwestern quickly put the Builders up nine, however.  Mac struggled in the final five minutes and SWC went into the locker room up 41-30.  The 'Dogs shot in 10-of-26 from the floor and were 9-of-12 from the foul line while Southwestern counted 10-of-30 field goals and 16-of-20 free throws.

The second period was dictated by the Moundbuilders as they quickly increased their lead to 20 in less than five minutes.  McPherson had a tough time putting the ball through the hoop and SWC did not.  The score-margin increased to 30+ for the final five minutes and Southwestern walked away with an 81-48 victory.  MC put in seven of their 27 attempts with only 1-of-10 falling from deep.  The Builders counted 15-of-30 from the field including 4-of-9 from behind the arc.

In the game, McPherson scored on 17-of-53 field goals and were just 2-of-17 from distance, 11.8%; they connected on 12-of-18 free throws.  Mac was outrebounded 44-31 but were able to grab 12 offensive boards.  They logged 20 turnovers, 12 assists, six steals, and five blocks.  38 of the Bulldogs' total came in the paint and 16 were scored by reserves.

Bailey Brown knocked in 6-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the stripe for her team-high 15 points; she also tabbed three rebounds and three assists.  Georgia Smart entered the game from the bench to score 12; she was 5-of-14 from the field and 2-of-4 from the foul line; she pulled in a team leading six rebounds.  Callie Atkins knocked in both of McPherson's three-point buckets and added another two pointer for her eight points.

The Bulldogs will next head to Wichita, Kansas where they'll face the Falcons of Friends University on January 17th; tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. (CT)
