Wichita, Kan. –MC scored the first points and the last points of Saturday's game with Friends University; the Bulldog offense scored three and the defense scored two en route to their 45-5 loss to the Falcons.
The game started well enough for McPherson as the defense made a stop on their first time out and then the offense moved into scoring range, with Jake Weigel capping off the drive with his first field goal of the year on a 29-yarder; the 3-0 lead was McPherson's first of the season. Things took a sharp turn south from there as the ensuing kickoff was taken back to the house for Friends, giving the Falcons the 7-3 lead.
MC was only able to get three first downs the rest of the half. The defense for McPherson played well in the opening two quarters as they allowed just 10 points. The 'Dogs headed into the locker room trailing 17-3 at halftime.
More three-and-outs awaited McPherson in the second half as the offense struggled to move the ball across the 50-yard line. A Friends fumble that was recovered by a Falcon in their own end zone gave Mac their, and the game's, final points of the night on a safety.
McPherson had 58 offensive plays in the game and they totaled 104 yards. DeAvonte Doucet rushed for 113 yards but quarterback Chris Linnin had a total of -48 yards on the ground which affected the team's total yardage. Linnin completed 4-of-24 passes for 39 yards and also had three picks on the day. Michael Ramos pulled down three of those balls for 26 yards while Tim Jones had one grab for 13 yards.
MC allowed 382 yards on 72 Falcon plays; they forced Friends to convert just 2-of-14 third downs. Michael Rabara led the team in tackles with 11 including two for a loss; five of his stops were by himself. Chauncey Charles racked up 10 tackles, six being unassisted. Both Braden Bush and Greg Elvin had six solo stops as well.
The 'Dogs are back in action on October 24th when they head to Leavenworth, Kansas to take on the University of Saint Mary Spires; start time is set for 1:30 p.m. (CT)
