McPherson, Kan. – Senior middle hitter Taryn Lee had 15 kills in the five-set match, her second highest of the year, but it wasn't enough as MC lost to Bethel College 3-2.
Errors played a major factor in each of the night's sets. The Bulldogs took advantage of BC's poor hitting in the opening set, jumping out to a near double-digit lead; though Bethel crept back in, Mac took the set 25-23.
In the second, the Threshers rolled from the get-go, getting up 18-5 and then cruising to the 25-14 win.
The two teams traded the lead in the third set, each getting in front on multiple occasions. It was still neck-and-neck at the 25-point mark, leading to overtime. After the score was tied at 28-28, Bethel put two together for the 30-28 win.
McPherson came back with a vengeance in the fourth. The 'Dogs put run after run together and took the set 25-11.
Bethel took a 6-1 lead in the fifth set and then led 8-3 as the teams switched sides. A 4-0 run by the Threshers ended the match after the 15-6 set five win.
Neither team hit the ball well on Monday; MC had a .076 hitting percentage while Bethel's was .087.
Lee tallied a game-high 15 kills on 43 swings; she had a .186 attacking percentage which led the MC front row. Lexi Kite also cracked into double-digits for kills with her 10; she had 11 digs and a service ace as well. Micah Murray and Jessica Sanders each ended the night with six kills and four block assists.
Maci Schlehuber tallied 24 assists and also had one kill in the match; she recorded nine digs. Rhianna Smith logged 19 assists and seven digs for Mac.
Emily Warner got close to the 30 mark in digs with her 28; she also had one kill.
The loaded week continues for McPherson on Wednesday as they travel to Sterling College on the 21st; start time for the JV is at 5:30 p.m. (CT) with varsity scheduled for 7:00
