Lindsborg, Kan. – It was a match that came down to the wire between McPherson College and fellow McPherson county institution Bethany College on Wednesday. With less than seven minutes to play, Christopher Kelly found David Nobo off a corner for the game's lone goal, giving Mac an important conference win. The 'Dogs are now 8-8 on the year and 5-3 in the KCAC.
"That was a well-played game by both teams tonight," said Coach Quint. "I was really pleased with a lot of the aspects of the game and how we played."
It was a very defensive and aggressive first 45 minutes in Lindsborg as there were as many shots as there were yellow cards. Mac recorded three of the tries at goal with one on frame, while the two clubs split the card total.
In the second, the two teams began attacking with Bethany attempting three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. The 'Dogs were in attack mode down the stretch, determined not to have the match head into overtime. After a bombardment on the Swede Goal in the final 15, Kelly's corner was struck by Nobo for the game winner. MC matched Bethany's shot total, two, in the final five minutes, as they refused to back down. The clock struck zeroes with Mac taking the match 1-0.
The Bulldogs put 14 shots on the board with half finding the target. Greg Roller tabbed four total shots and put all of them on frame. Nobo, Tyler Minney and Brayam De La Cruz each took two.
In the goal for McPherson was junior Aaron Parrott; he tallied six saves in yet another shutout victory.
The win puts MC tied for fourth in the KCAC with just two games to play before the conference postseason tournament; in the tourney, the top two seeds get byes and the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds host the quarterfinals. The Bulldogs take to the road on Saturday the 31st as they take on 1-12-1, 0-8 Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. (CT)
