McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College faced a very tough NAIA No. 11 Tabor College football team on Saturday afternoon. After the 60-minute contest, the ranked Bluejays took the game 62-0 in McPherson.
"You have to give Tabor a lot of credit," said Coach Mierkiewicz. "I think that's the best football team we've seen all year. It was another week where our team played hard but we're not to that level yet. We are going to continue recruiting and retaining and keep working hard to make Bulldog Nation proud."
The opening two drives for Mac turned out to be their best of the contest. The first was looking very promising as the team was averaging 6.0 yards per play but a fumble stopped the drive short. On their second possession, the 'Dogs went 12 plays for over six minutes but failed to convert on fourth down, turning the ball over to the Bluejays.
Tabor scored a touchdown on each of their six first-half drives and headed into the locker room up 41-0.
In the second half, there wasn't a lot of ball movement by either team. The Bulldog D stepped up and forced a few TC punts but the Mac offense had a difficult time running on the stout Tabor defensive line; MC tabbed 75 total yards in the second half. As the final seconds came to a close, Tabor took the game 62-0.
The 'Dogs rushed for 98 yards in the game. Ryan Lakso took the ball 20 times for 75 yards with a long of 20. Jackson Goodmiller ran for 39 yards on eight carries. Chris Linnin went 7-of-19 for 47 yards with a pair of interceptions at quarterback. Ste'fon Walker pulled down three balls for 25 yards.
McPherson allowed 473 total yards to the Bluejays, 233 rushing and 240 passing. Defensively Mac was led by Braden Bush who had 11 total tackles with a team-high seven solo stops. Dalton Whitfield logged five assisted and five solo tackles. On the outside, Kavoderic McIntyre tallied eight tackles. Cole Collins led the team in tackles for a loss with 1.5, totaling 6.5 yards.
It's Senior Day for MC next Saturday as they host Sterling College. The November 7th game is set to kickoff at 1:00 p.m. (CT)
