McPherson Loses to KCAC No. 1 Braves

Ottawa, Kan. – Riding a three-game high, the Lady Bulldogs pushed KCAC No. 1 Ottawa University on Monday night but unfortunately lost a three-set match to the Braves.  Mac is now 6-15 on the year and 1-8 in the conference.

The first set of the match went back-and-forth with both teams putting runs together.  Leading 13-11, MC gave up seven-straight to the Braves, putting them behind 18-13.  The 'Dogs pushed back and took the lead 20-19.  Sadly, OU finished the match on a 6-0 run for the 25-20 win.

In the second set, it was again a tight fight.  Mac took a 12-7 lead but five in a row by Ottawa tied it up at 12-12.  McPherson was the first to 20, leading 20-18.  Tied up at 22-22, the Braves went 3-1 for the second set victory.

The early goings of the third set was close but a few mini-runs by OU put them out in front for good; they took the set 25-14.

Lexi Kite led the Bulldogs in scoring with her 11 kills and one assisted block; she also tallied eight digs.  Middle hitter Taryn Lee was second on the list with 8.5 points on seven kills, one solo and one assisted block.  Jessica Sanders had six kills on 19 swings for a team-high .211 hitting percentage.

Rhianna Smith accrued 16 assists and also had six digs in the match.  Maci Schlehuber tallied 13 assists and 10 digs for Mac.

Following her stellar past three games, Emily Warner tabbed 16 digs.  Molly Kelley was next on the list with 12 digs and also had a service ace.

The final game of the first round of KCAC-play is on Wednesday the 7th; the match is set to be the annual Cancer Awareness contest with all of the gate proceedes going to Women and Children Combatting Cancer of McPherson.  The JV match starts at 5:30 p.m. (CT) with varsity beginning at 7:00.
