McPherson, Kan. – The MC men's soccer team got even in the conference after their 4-3 victory over Tabor College on Wednesday. The 'Dogs are now 4-6 overall and 1-1 against the KCAC.
"Offensively that was some of our best soccer of the year," said head coach Doug Quint. "We had good movement and had some hungry players in the attacking third. It was so nice to see. Nick and Chris were fantastic today. Nick is really starting to hone in and perform at the level we know he's capable of. Chris has been Mr. Consistent and he's finally starting to express himself a little bit on the ball. I also felt Morgan played one of his better games of the year. We go on the road this Saturday and need to be much better defensively."
Tabor shot out of the gate, taking four shots in the first 10 minutes but it was the Bulldogs who drew first blood as Jesus Pescador knocked a Christopher Kelly ball into the back of the net to give MC a 1-0 lead. Just a couple minutes later and Kelly was celebrating his own goal as he finished a Greg Roller pass. Tabor scored their lone goal of the half with 15 left to play, moving the halftime score to 2-1. The Bluejays outshot Mac 11-9 in the opening 45 and placed five on target.
After playing on the defensive for the first couple minutes of the second, the Bulldogs were able to get on the attack as Nick Torres slotted a Kelly pass in the 56th, moving the score to 3-1. TC capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity, inching closer in the 60th minute. After multiple strikes at goal, McPherson gave themselves some more cushion as Torres scored his second goal of the match with 18 minutes to play. The 'Jays kept things interesting as they scored with just over seven to go but the Bulldog D stood strong helping Mac take the match 4-3.
Of the team's 18 total strikes, Brayam De La Cruz and Torres had five apiece; Torres put his two on frame, both of which were goals. Roller had four shot attempts in the match with one finding the keeper's hands. Pescador added in three shots with two on target and the one goal.
MC goalie Aaron Parrott recorded six saves and three goals in his 90 minutes between the posts.
The Bulldogs travel to Sterling, Kansas for a 3:00 p.m. (CT) match with the Warriors of Sterling College on Saturday the 10th.
