Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three Second Half Goals Give ‘Dogs 3-1 Win

McPherson, Kan. – After allowing a goal to Tabor College in the 16th minute, the MC women's soccer team took it to the Bluejays, scoring three goals in the second half and taking the match 3-1.  Mac is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the KCAC.

"I was real pleased with how we played tonight," said Coach Quint.  "It's always so satisfying to see players rewarded for all their hard work.  Burke finally got on the end of a corner to score her first goal of the year.  Bree's free kick was one of the best free-kicks I've seen in the women's game.  Then to top it off with a first time finish in the run of play by KJ, that is something we work on in training every day and boy did she put a smile on my face.  It was fantastic."
A misplayed ball gave Tabor an easy strike at goal which they converted to give the game its first goal in the 16th minute.  TC didn't take another shot the rest of the half but were able to hold off advances by the Bulldogs to head into the break ahead 1-0.  MC took seven shots in the first half and put six on target.

In the second, McPherson came out ready to defend their home field.  Following three shots in the first five minutes a goal was scored by Kayla Burke off a corner kick by Breelyn Petty to even thigs up.  Just five minutes later and Petty had a goal herself after rocketing a free kick into the upper 90, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.  The Lady 'Jays pushed forward to try and get the equalizer but it was MC who scored the game's final goal as Kayla Faust blasted an Amy Stockton ball into the net, pushing the score to 3-1.  The Bulldog defense allowed just one shot in the final 25 minutes.

For the game, Mac outshot Tabor 15-5 and were able to put 11 tries on target; the team also held close to 65% of the possession.  Cydney Lewis took four shots with two on frame.  Stockton shot the ball three times with two making it between the pipes.  Both Faust and Petty had two strikes.

MC goal keeper Sheryl Evans wasn't called upon much on Wednesday night as she recorded just two saves in the 90-minute match.

McPherson will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday as they face Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas; match time is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT)
