McPherson, Kan. – The annual "Battle for McPherson" is set for tomorrow night as the McPherson College Bulldogs take on the Central Christian College Tigers on Wednesday in the MC Sport Center. Tipoff for the JV men will be at 4:00 p.m. (CT), the women's game is set for 6:00 p.m., with the varsity men at 8:00. It's RED OUT for McPherson so Bulldog fans be sure to wear your RED!!!
The Lady 'Dogs head into the November 17th contest still looking for their first win of the season. The team has had a plethora of close calls including their season opener that went into overtime. Bailey Brown captains and leads the squad; the four-year starter is averaging over 10 points a night through the team's four games. Newcomer Ashton Bruner has provided a solid inside presence for MC; the McPherson native averages a double-double.
The Mac men's team sits at 2-0 on the year with wins over Haskell Indian Nations University and Manhattan Christian College. The 'Dogs have four players that are averaging over 10 points a night and are led by newcomer Dee Roberts who sits at 14.5 per game. Junior Chris Crook is next on the list with his 14.0 average. Bigman transfer Reed Rowell has tallied 10+ boards a contest along with 9.0 points.
Scouting Central
The Central women are 0-2 this season with losses to Southwestern Christian University and Kansas Wesleyan University. The team is averaging 55 points a game with a high of 60 in their season opener. The Tigers are shooting in 36.6 percent from the floor with just 30% of their threes dropping. Rebounding has been an issue for CCC as they are -22 in boards per game, averaging just 26.5. They turn the ball over close to 20 times a night while stealing back eight. The main player for the Tigers is Heather Crittenden; the center is averaging 20 points a night while shooting in 44% of her field goals.
The men's squad is 1-1 with a win over Friends University and a loss to Kansas Wesleyan University. They average 82.5 points a night while shooting in 47.1 percent from the field; they count over 45% from distance and average 40 rebounds per game. The team has turned the ball over 16 times in both of their games this season. Individually, Michael Gholston leads the team with his 27.5 points per contest; he is making 67% from the floor and has drained an impressive 12-of-16 three balls, that's 75 percent! Also in double-digits each time this season is their big, Alonzo Stafford; the forward is averaging 16 points and 6.5 rebounds a night.
