McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's basketball team will head down to Winfield, Kansas on Valentine's Day, February 14th, to take on the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College at 3:00 p.m. (CT). This will be the final road game of the regular season for MC.
Mac is currently 4-23 on the year and sit 3-12 in the KCAC; the Lady 'Dogs are sitting one game out of eighth place with just three left to play. They have lost their last four games with the most recent being a tight battle with the Ottawa University Braves; the Bulldogs hit on nearly 50% of their shots but turnovers loomed large as they lost 70-61 on the road.

This conference season, McPherson is scoring just 58.2 points a night while allowing 71.7. The team is shooting in 36.9% from the field with 27.6 percent of their threes making it through; they net 67.4% from the foul stripe. Mac is allowing their opponents to shoot in 40.1 percent from the floor with 33.9% of their three balls falling through. The 'Dogs grab 35.6 rebounds a night and have a negative rebounding margin of 6.6. They also tab 12.5 assists, 5.8 steals, and a league high 4.1 blocks per game.
Bailey Brown, who just surpassed 1000 career points, leads the team in scoring with her 17.0 average; she has made a team-high 72 field goals and 99 free throws. Sunny Smart is netting 12.7 each time out and has bucketed a team leading 39 three balls; she also tops the 'Dogs in rebounds with her 6.0 average. Smart is 13th in the NAIA in total three-point makes with 70 on the year. Georgia Smart scores 7.2 a game and pulls down 4.9 boards for Mac.
MC and the KCAC: Brown is sitting firm at second in the league in scoring with 255 total points; she is 15 away from first and is 19 ahead of third. S. Smart leads the KCAC in three-point buckets a night at 2.6. Alicia Demaret has blocked 28 balls in the conference season ranking her first by one. Whitney Jefferson ranks fourth in assists per game with her 3.0 average.
McPherson will finish up the 2014-15 regular season with a pair of home games starting with Friends University on February 19th; start time is set for 6:00 p.m. (CT)
Scouting Southwestern
The Lady Moundbuilders are 17-8 this season and have gone 11-4 in the KCAC thus far; they are sitting in second in the conference rankings and just one game out of first. The team is riding a five-game winning streak with all but one of those being 20-point victories. They most recently took down the University of Saint Mary 78-51 in Leavenworth.
In the game with the Spires, it was a close contest for most of the opening period but a 17-0 run by the Builders midway through the half put them up double-digit for good; Southwestern coasted in the second to the 27-point win. SWC scored on nearly 50% of their 59 field goals; they were 10-of-26 from distance and a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe. Saint Mary made just 32% from the floor with 8-of-27 tries from behind the arc going through.

The Moundbuilders lead the conference in a plethora of categories including scoring defense (56.5 ppg), scoring margin (13.1), field goal percentage (42.3%), three-point percentage (36.9%), free throw percentage (77.4%), and rebounding (40.7 a night). They average 15.9 turnovers, 14.3 assists, 5.5 steals, and 2.6 blocks each time out.
Individually, the squad is led by Jordan Hobbs who is making 13.9 points per game; she leads the team in field goals made (63-of-146), three pointers made (37-of-97), free throws made (45-of-52), and assists (46). Jana Reichenberger is the team's top rebounder with her 9.0 average; she is also second in scoring at 10.7 points a night. Tiffany Rieger is netting 9.9 a night and has made 33-of-72 three-point buckets. Jordan's sister Jessica Hobbs is near the 10-point mark each time out and has cashed in on 31 threes herself.
SWC vs. the KCAC: Jo. Hobbs is tied for seventh in scoring with her 208 points; she is second in free throw percentage at 86.5% and also in three pointers made a game with 2.47. Rieger has hit on 45.8% of her three balls which ranks her first in the league; Southwestern has three players in the top-4 of three-point field goal percentage with the Hobbs sisters being the other two. Reichenberger ranks second in total rebounds with 135 and also sits fourth in blocks per game at 1.1.
The final regular season home game for Southwestern is on February 19th when they host Bethel College.
