McPherson, Kan. – The MC women's basketball team is currently ranked ninth in the KCAC standings and only the top-eight teams make the postseason tournament. The Bulldogs are one-game behind the University of Saint Mary, who they host on Saturday, and need to take down Friends University on Thursday the 19th to stay alive for postseason play; tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (CT) in the Sport Center.
Mac is coming off a very close contest with KCAC No. 2 Southwestern College; the 'Dogs led at halftime but couldn't get their shots to fall in the second, leading to an eight-point defeat. McPherson is 4-24 on the year and 3-13 in the conference. They have had a rough time scoring for most of the season but have come on strong as of late, scoring above their season average for the month of February.
MC vs. the NAIA – Sunny Smart ranks 13th in total three balls made this year with 74 and is 17th in three-point makes per game at 2.64. Alicia Demaret is 24th in total blocks with 42.

The team ranks towards the bottom of the league in most of the scoring categories; they are ninth in total offense a game at 58.5 and shoot in an eighth best 37.3% from the field. The 'Dogs make 67.2 percent from the foul line which puts them fifth and they are bucketing 5.6 threes a night, sixth best in the KCAC. Defensively, Mac is 10th in scoring as they allow 72 points a game; their opponents are making 40.1% from the field and 33.3 from distance. The squad is ninth in steals per game (6.1), third in assists (12.6), and first in the conference in blocks a night (4.1).
Bailey Brown has scored 272 points through the KCAC season on 78-of-176 shooting; she tops the team in free throws with 102 and is pulling down 5.6 rebounds a game. S. Smart averages 13.1 points a night and has cashed in on a team leading 43 three balls; she tops the 'Dogs in rebounds with her 6.0 average. Georgia Smart is scoring 7.1 each time out and grabs 4.7 boards.
Mac vs. the KCAC – Brown is second in the conference in scoring average at 17.0ppg. S. Smart tops the league in three-point field goals with her 2.69 each night. Demaret sits second in blocks with 29 through the team's 16 league games. Whitney Jefferson is fifth in the KCAC in assists with her 47 total.
The final game of the regular season is set for February 21st as McPherson plays host to Saint Mary with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m.; it will be Red Out Night in the Sport Center so be sure to wear your red. This could be a "make it or break it" game for Mac if the 'Dogs win and USM loses to Bethany on Thursday.
Scouting Friends
The Lady Falcons started the year off strong, winning 12 of their first 14 including all four KCAC games before the break. After the New Year, FU has struggled a bit as they've gone 6-7 in 2015; they are 4-1 in their previous five games with the lone win coming against the KCAC's No. 10 team. Friends lost to USM this past weekend 68-65 on the road.
Falcons in the NAIA – The team is fourth in the NAIA D-II in total steals with 366, fifth in defensive three-point field goal percentage at 25.8%, and seventh in steals per game at 13.1. Friends' turnover margin of 4.4 is 13th in the Nation. Kayla Mollere ranks 15th in steals a night and total steals on the season with 2.96 and 77, respectively.

The team is scoring an average of 70.6 points this season, topping the league; they make 39.9% in from the field and 33.1 from behind the arc. The team is allowing just 61 points a night, third best in the conference; their opponents are shooting in 36% from the floor and 27.7 from deep. The squad rebounds 38.9 boards a night to go along with 14.2 assists (second highest), 13.9 steals (KCAC-High), and 2.0 blocks.
Mollere tops the team in scoring with her 15.2 average; she has made a team-high 91 field goals and 46 assists. The senior also leads the team in assists (40), steals (45), and rebounds per game (9.5). Mykel Boyd is second for FU at 11.1 points a night; she has yet to start a conference contest this season. Kayla Justice nets 8.7 on average and has cashed in on 23-of-65 three balls. Emily Barto has made one more three-point basket than Justice, 25, and is making 35.8% from deep.
Friends in the KCAC – Mollere is fifth in scoring with her 228 total and is making 53.5% from the floor which is second best in the league; she is leading the conference in steals per game at 3.0 and is second in total rebounds a night.
Friends finishes out the regular season on February 21st at home as they take on the Threshers of Bethel College.
