McPherson, Kan. – After canceling their weekend trip to Texas, the McPherson College baseball team added a doubleheader for this Friday against William Penn University; the 'Dogs dropped the set of games 9-0 and 8-4.
Game 1 – 9-0 William Penn
The Statesmen scored at least one run in all but one inning in the opening contest; two of those came off of MC errors. Mac had trouble scoring and lost 9-0.
The 'Dogs were only able to tally one hit and a pair of walks in the quick seven-inning contest; Stephon Miller logged the lone hit while Matt Bryan and Tom Potter made it aboard via walks.
McPherson used four pitchers in the game with Nathan Crowe getting the start and earning the loss. Treyton DeVore came in relief during the fourth inning and threw through the sixth. Both Tyler Lambert and Jesse Correll pitched in the seventh.
Game 2 – 8-4 William Penn
In the second game of the doubleheader, WPU put up two runs in each of the first three innings while Mac was able to tally three with two coming in the second; a pair of errors helped the Statesmen score four of their runs. The Bulldogs had their chances late but could not convert, losing 8-4.
MC earned eight hits and got three on through walks. Evan Willow logged a pair of doubles while Tom Potter and Seth Davenport each got on twice. Both Davenport and Bryan knocked one over the fence for McPherson.
Ethan Dowling went for three and a third, picking up the loss. In the fourth inning he was replaced by Keegan Hays who closed out the contest. Both of the Mac pitchers tallied three strikeouts.
The Bulldogs will be at home again on February 24th when they host Nebraska Wesleyan University; game one of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT)
