Mac Loses 12-4 Contest to Tigers

Hays, Kan. – The McPherson College baseball team dropped a 12-4 nine-inning outing against NCAA D-II Fort Hays State University on Tuesday night.

Game 1 – 12-4 Fort Hays State

The Bulldogs were the first team to score as Kyle McDonald scored Reily Martin on an RBI groundout in the opening frame.  Unfortunately for MC, FHSU scored three runs in each of the next three innings to go up 9-1; the 'Dogs held FHSU to just three runs the rest of the way.  Mac was able to add three to their total late in the game as they netted one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth but it wasn't enough as they fell 12-4.

McPherson made it safely aboard 10 times in the nine-inning contest, eight of those were by hits.  Martin led the team with his 3-of-4 day at the plate; he also scored twice.  Stephon Miller logged a pair of singles and had one RBI.  McDonald had a double and also got on once via base on balls.

Four pitchers were used by MC in the mid-week game.  Gage Calvin got the start and went three innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits and a pair of walks.  Colter Streck threw for the fourth and fifth before being relieved by Brant RhoadesLoren Farley pitched for the final inning and tallied a pair of strikeouts.

The 'Dogs are back in action on Friday as they travel to Wichita, Kansas to battle Friends University at Lawrence Dumont Stadium; start time for the DH is 1:00 p.m. (CT)
