McPherson, Kan. – It was a tough night for Bulldog Baseball on Thursday as they dropped a pair of contests to Robert Morris University of Illinois, 19-1 and 8-3. McPherson is now 3-11 on the year.
Game 1 – 19-1 RMU
The 'Dogs scored in the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead as Reily Martin scored on a Seth Davenport sacrifice squeeze bunt. Unfortunately for Mac, they would not score the rest of the contest. Robert Morris put six runs in the third, three in the fourth, two in the sixth, and eight in the seventh to take the game 19-1.
MC logged six hits and made it aboard safely 11 times with five walks. Tom Potter and Shon Pinard earned a pair of walks to lead the Bulldogs in on-base percentage.
Treyton DeVore recorded the loss for the McPherson pitching staff; he threw for two and two-thirds innings allowing six runs. Loren Farley went one and two-thirds innings before being relieved by Tyler Lambert who closed out the fifth and pitched into the seventh. Corey Taylor ended the game on the mound for Mac.
Game 2 – 8-3 RMU
The Eagles took the 1-0 lead after the first in the second game of the night and added another in the third. Mac responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to tie things up. The 'Dogs jumped out in front with a run in the fifth but RMU put up six in the top of the sixth to take the game 8-3.
McPherson got on base 10 times in the second contest with six being via walks. Matt Bryan, Davenport, and Potter each logged both a hit and a walk; Martin got aboard twice via base on balls.
Jesse Correll nearly followed up his complete game win from a week ago with another victory. The freshman lefthander went five and a third before being relieved; he had allowed just two runs on nine hits prior to the sixth inning. Nathan Crowe closed out the night for the Bulldogs, throwing for one and two-thirds innings.
The 'Dogs are back at it on Saturday, March 7 as they take on Robert Morris at 11:00 a.m. (CT) and then Central Christian College around 4:00; both games are to take place at Light Capital Diamonds in McPherson.
