Game Recap: Softball |

Mac Splits with Lady Threshers

North Newton, Kan. – It was a blustery day for softball but that didn't stop McPherson College and Bethel College from getting a pair of contests in on Wednesday.  The two teams spilt the doubleheader with the Threshers claiming game one 9-3 and Mac taking the final game of the night, 8-2.

Game 1 – 9-3 Bethel College

After McPherson took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame, the Lady Threshers posted six runs to take a commanding lead.  MC scored one in the third but two more by Bethel in the fourth put the score at 8-2; BC added another in the sixth to give them their nine total.  Mac fell short of a comeback in the final inning as they scored just one run, losing 9-3.

Mariah Wedel and Samantha Harrity led the 'Dogs in hitting with two knocks apiece; both of Harrity's were doubles and the junior logged two RBI.  Wedel also got aboard via a walk, as did Emily Davis.  Three other MC players had a hit in the loss.

Amanda Connell pitched the complete game, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits and four walks; the freshman had a pair of strikeouts in her seven innings.

Game 2 – 8-2 McPherson College

In the second game, it was the Bulldogs who got up early as they saw three come across home plate in the top of the first.  Mac put two more on the board in each of the third and fourth innings to take a 7-1 lead into the fifth.  Bethel scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth and MC added one more in the seventh for good measure, giving them the 8-2 victory.

MC tallied 10 hits in the win with Amanda Darrow leading the way with her 4-of-4 outing; she had a home run and tallied four RBI.  Davis grabbed a pair of hits and also had two RBI in her four at bats.  Whitney Miller got on twice as well, once with a hit and another via base on balls.

The complete game win went to Kaylee Lozier as she threw 97 pitches in the seven-inning contest; the freshman surrendered just one earned run on eight hits and one walk.

Mac is back in action on April 4th when they host Tabor College at Wall Park in McPherson; start time is slated for 1:00 p.m. (CT)
