McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team started 2015 off on the right foot as they took down Waldorf College (Iowa) 3-2 on Friday. It was a five-set match with the 'Dogs winning the final two sets including a decisive 15-6 fifth.
The opening game was not pretty for Mac as they trailed early and eventually fell 25-10. That did not deter the Lady 'Dogs as they bounced back for a 25-20 set two win. The third set went the way of the Warriors 25-18. It was a very tight fourth set the whole way through but McPherson was able to score five of the final six to take the set 25-21. In the fifth, the Bulldogs used adrenaline supplied by the boisterous MC crowed to take a quick advantage and then closed it out with an 8-2 run for the 15-6 triumph.
Taryn Lee led Mac with her 12 kills on 40 swings; the middle hitter ended the night with 15.5 total points as she was a part of five block assists and also had a solo stuff. Freshman Lexi Kite also eclipsed the double-digit kill total with her 11 on 29 attempts. Newcomer Jocelyn Cochran was one kill short of 10 but added in 16 digs and four block assists.
The two setters for MC, Maci Schlehuber and Rhianna Smith, both posted solid numbers as they tallied 13 and 14 assists, respectively.
Libero Emily Warner took the digging crown with her game-high 42.
McPherson is back in action on August 25th when they host cross-town rival Central Christian College at 7:00 p.m. (CT)
