McPherson Falls Short of KWU

Salina, Kan. – In their second KCAC match of the year, the Lady Bulldogs struggled to get started, getting down 2-0 early.  A set three victory pushed the match to the fourth but the Coyotes were able to claim the match 3-1.  MC is now 2-3 on the year and 0-2 in the conference.

Mac had a tough time stringing points together in the first set as Kansas Wesleyan led 6-1 then 11-4, then 19-7, and finally the set ended at 25-13.  The second was very similar to the first, the 'Yotes were up 8-0, then 14-4, 21-8, and closed the set at 25-16.  McPherson got out to a quick start in the third set and was able to maintain their advantage throughout, taking the set 25-21.  The 'Dogs again started strong in the fourth set but let a 5-1 get diminished courtesy of a 6-0 KWU run; another pair of runs by Kansas Wesleyan gave the home team a 25-13 win, ending the match at 3-1.

Jocelyn Cochran topped the MC kill list with her 11 on 45 attempts; she also had three blocks and eight digs in the match.  Lexi Kite and Taryn Lee each tallied eight kills; Lee added in three block assists.

Tallying 22 assists for the Bulldogs was freshman Rhianna Smith; the setter was second on the team in digs with her 15.

Mac libero Emily Warner dug up 24 balls and also had a kill in the four-set match.

McPherson's next set of matches will come at the Johnson & Wales Tournament in Denver, Colorado.  The 'Dogs are scheduled to take on Dakota Wesleyan University and Johnson & Wales University on Friday the 11th at 11:00 a.m. (CT) and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
