Men’s Soccer Loses NAIA Tournament Rematch 2-1

Des Moines, Iowa – It was another hard fought loss for Bulldog soccer as they fell to Grand View University 2-1; the score is identical to the two team's previous meeting which came in the 2014 NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.

"We played a solid match," said Coach Quint.  "We grew up as a squad today and played a better game than we have so far.  At the end of the game, we had a chance to win.  We had a lot of guys step up for us."

The match started quick and GVU was awarded a PK in the opening four minutes.  Mac goalie Aaron Parrott made a great save to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0.  In the 35th minute, the Bulldogs got their best chance to score as Kevin Ndongo found himself open on a corner within the six-year box.  Unfortunately the header went high, keeping the scoreboard blank.  60 seconds later and the Vikings had a near identical ball that they were able to finish, putting the score at 1-0 which is where it stayed heading into halftime.

Mac stepped up in the second period.  The team ran with the No. 4 team in the NAIA, keeping near identical possession.  The 'Dogs got the equalizer in the 66th minute as Jose Angulo blasted one into the netting from 30 yards out.  The home squad Grand View got the last laugh though as they scored in the 76th minute, giving them a 2-1 lead.  MC continued to push and took multiple tries at goal but was unable to tie the match, leaving it in the Vikings' favor.

Out of the team's seven total shots, four were taken by Jesus Pescador who put two on target.  Angulo and Brayam De La Cruz each had one shot on goal.

Parrott played the complete 90 minutes at goal keeper for Mac; he logged five saves in the match.

The 'Dogs have their next outing on September 16th against Manhattan Christian College at the Kennel; start time is slated for 5:00 p.m. (CT)
