Omaha, Neb. – The MC women's soccer team won their first match of 2015 as they overtook Grace University on Labor Day, September 7th. Senior Breelyn Petty scored twice for the 'Dogs en route to their 4-1 victory.
"We had a lot of ladies play well today," said Coach Quint. "We possessed the ball well and defensively had another outstanding performance."
McPherson's defense was on display early against the Royals as the team allowed just one shot in the opening 45; the attempt came in the 27th minute. The Bulldog offense also started the match on the right foot as they scored twice prior to the 20-minute mark; Petty logged both of those goals with Amy Stockton and Cheyanne Smith being responsible for the assists.
In the second, MC allowed their lone goal off a distance strike from Grace. The 'Dogs responded just three minutes later as Smith slotted one in off a Belen Villegas assist. McPherson put one more on the board in the 89th minute for good measure; Lacy Fry knocked a Tiffany Fraser assist into the back of the net to give the Bulldogs the 4-1 triumph.
As a team, Mac took six first half shots and then nine in the second; 11 total were on frame. Petty took six of those attempts with all going on target. Both Villegas and Heather Diamond had two shot attempts with five others taking a strike at goal.
Junior goal keeper Caitlyn Blagrave recorded the win, playing the full 90 minutes between the pipes. The Mac defense allowed just two total shots with the one going in.
McPherson will have a short break until their next contest as the Lady Bulldogs host Saint Gregory's University on September 9th at McPherson Stadium; start time is still TBD.
