McPherson, Kan. – It's a one game week for the McPherson College women's basketball team and their lone competition will be held in Bartlesville, Oklahoma as the 'Dogs take on the newest member of the KCAC, Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Mueller Sports Center.
Scouting McPherson
The Lady Bulldogs are sitting at 11-16 on the year and are 8-9 in the KCAC, tying them for fourth place with three games to go. After winning this past Thursday at home, Mac struggled to score down the stretch against the conference leading Tabor College Bluejays on Saturday, falling 62-45.
Last Time Out – The opening period was probably the best basketball McPherson has played all year; the team went toe-to-toe with the KCAC-undefeated Lady 'Jays and headed into the second down 17-16. The second period was very low scoring as both teams made adjustments defensively, bringing the halftime score to 29-24 in favor of TC. The third quarter went back-and-forth for the first eight minutes but a late push by Tabor put them ahead 44-34 with one period to play. In the fourth, MC struggled to get out of the gate which put them down 20+; the 'Dogs tried to fight back in but were too far out, losing 62-45. McPherson shot in 18-of-56 in the game and took just seven three-point tries, making two; they shot under 50% from the line for just the second time this season, going 7-of-15. The team pulled in 31 boards including 21 on the offensive end; they had 15 turnovers, nine steals, four assists and three blocks.
After scoring 10 points in the first half, Ashton Bruner scored six more in the second for a game-high 16 points; she was 7-of-18 from the field and 2-of-5 from the stripe. Bailey Brown was 3-of-9 from the floor and just 3-of-6 from the free throw line for her 10 points; she recorded a team-high six rebounds. Georgia Smart scored six points and had five boards as well.

Year at a Glance – Mac is ninth in the league in scoring offense, totaling 61.8 points each game; their defense, however, is second as they allow just 64.5 points a night. The team is making 36.8% from the field and 27.0% from deep; they convert on 68.3% from the charity stripe. The 'Dogs are third in rebounding, averaging 40.5 per contest; they also tally 8.7 assists, 7.5 steals, and 3.1 blocks each time out.
Bruner holds a three point lead on Brown for the scoring title; the forward nets 15.9 a game and also tops the team in rebounding with an 8.6 average. Brown is at 15.7ppg and has made a team-high 113 free throws on 138 attempts, 81.9%. Smart is at 7.7 points per contest and grabs 4.4 rebounds.
Bulldogs in the National Rankings – The team ranks 22nd in total rebounds with 1072 and are 26th in total blocks with their 93 swatted shots. Bruner is 20th in defensive rebounds per game and total rebounds this season at 6.4 and 227, respectively. Brown sits 20th in free throw percentage at 83.2%.
McPherson will be off this Saturday and their next contest will be on February 18th as the team travels to Sterling College for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
Scouting Oklahoma Wesleyan
The Eagles are third in the KCAC with their 10-6 conference record; they are 16-10 overall. The team started 2016 on a eight game winning streak but have lost their last two, 83-79 to Bethany College and then 111-82 to Tabor College last Thursday.
Last Time Out – It was a close first period between Tabor and OKWU but a late run by the 'Jays put them in front 29-23 after one. TC pushed their lead to double-digits but never more than 12 as the Eagles traded buckets for most of the quarter; the visiting Bluejays went into the locker room ahead 50-40. Oklahoma Wesleyan could never get their deficit back into single figures and saw themselves down 81-58 after three and then 111-82 after the final buzzer sounded. The Eagles went 29-of-87 in the game with just 5-of-25 three balls falling; they made 19 of their 23 free throws. The team pulled down 41 total rebounds with 20 being offensive boards; they also tabbed 25 turnovers, 20 steals, 15 assists, and one block.
Shelbie Kirby led the scoring for OKWU with her 15 bench points; she was just 3-of-10 from the floor but hit all eight of her free throws. Cheyenne Been netted 4-of-13 field goals and 3-of-3 foul shots for 14 points. Susan Ageson was the third double-digit scorer with her 12 on 3-of-5 shooting with 6-of-6 free throws. Courtney Robinson also made it over 10 points with 11 on 4-of-6 two-point buckets and 1-of-4 threes.

Year at a Glance – Oklahoma Wesleyan is the top scoring team in the league, putting 84.4 points on the board on average; they are dead last in points allowed, 80.1 a game. The team makes 40.6% from the floor and a KCAC third-best 31.9% from deep; their 74.3 field goal percentage is second in the KCAC. The team pulls in 41.2 rebounds each time out which is No. 2 in the league; they are the leading assist team with a 14.5 average to go along with 8.1 steals, and 3.2 blocks.
Through 15 KCAC games, the Eagles are led by Ageson in scoring and rebounding; the senior makes 46.4% from the floor for her 13.3 points and amasses 7.2 boards each time out. Been is second on the list at 12.7; she is to top three-point shooter for OKWU. Kirby and Kayla Morgan are both over the 10-point hump on average at 11.0 and 10.9, respectively. Robinson is close to 10 points a night, sitting at 9.7ppg.
The next game for Oklahoma Wesleyan is at home against Sterling College on Saturday.
