McPherson, Kan. – After falling in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, 6-1, the MC softball team took down Northwestern College 8-2 in the second.
Game 1 – L 6-1
The Red Raiders were the first on the scoreboard, scoring one run in the second inning; they added another in the fourth.
McPherson responded with their lone run in the bottom of the fourth as Amanda Connell singled in Linsey Kramer.
NWC put another on the board in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and one final run in the seventh; all of Northwestern's runs were scored with two outs.
The Bulldogs left nine runners on the bases and had just one three-up, three-down inning.
Mac logged four hits with senior Emily Davis leading the way with her two in four at bats. Simone Donaldson and Connell had the other two.
Sydney Lang picked up the loss for MC, throwing five innings before being relieved; she allowed three runs on five hits while striking out two. Katie Usdansky pitched the final two innings, giving up three runs on three hits and one walk.
Game 2 – W 8-2
The 'Dogs took advantage of some errors in game two.
Northwestern was again the first to score, posting a run in the third but Mac answered with a run of their own, Amanda Darrow brought in Chelsea Conrad to tie things up.
After giving up another in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs went on to score two in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the sixth. Darrow recorded the two RBIs in the fifth, bringing around Davis and Samantha Harrity. All five of McPherson's sixth inning runs were scored with two outs and courtesy of a Red Raider miscue.
Lang, who entered the game to pitch in the sixth, put out all six batters she faced to preserve the MC win. Usdansky started the contest at the mound and earned the win; she scattered 11 hits through five innings while giving up the two earned runs.
The hit total for the Bulldogs heavily increased in game two as they tallied nine with Darrow leading the pack with her 3-of-4 showing with five RBIs. Both Davis and Azaria Romero had two knocks of the ball while Katie Holmes and Cassandra Moreno recorded one.
McPherson is back at home tomorrow, February 21st, as they host Midland University for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at Wall Park.
