Bulldogs Split with Southwestern Christian

Bethany, Okla. – A solid pitching performance by McPherson College in the first game of their doubleheader with Southwestern Christian University was answered by an impressive seven innings on the mound by the Eagles in the second.  Mac took game one 2-1 and SCU won the second, 6-1.

Game 1 – W 2-1

Tyler Bailey pitched pitched six strong innings to carry the Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over Southwestern Christian University in the day's opening contest.

The top of the second saw Mac take an early lead, 1-0 on Kyle McDonald's solo homerun.

Southwestern Christian University scored its only run of the game in the second inning, tying things up.

The Bulldogs stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring one run on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Fontenot.

McDonald led the MC offensive threat, as he got on base two times in the game; he scored one run and had one RBI, homering in the second inning.  Dylan Klava and Bryce Strecker each tallied two hits in the one-run win.

McPherson's closer Blake Ware put away the final three outs to record the save.

Game 2 – L 6-1

The Bulldogs lost 6-1 in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Southwestern Christian University never surrendered the lead after scoring two runs in the second inning.

In the sixth inning, MC pushed across their only run of the day on an RBI triple by Reily Martin that scored Trent Smith.

The 'Dogs recorded eight hits in the loss, Lucas Giesey and Smith both tallied a team-high two.

Cameron Oram picked up the loss after going three and a third innings, allowing five runs on six hits.  A pitching by committee closed out the game with just one run being allowed on five knocks of the ball.

 

McPherson will start conference play this weekend as they host York College on March 5th and 6th; the teams will play a doubleheader at the Grant Sport Complex on Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m. (CT) and then follow that up with a Sunday DH at Light Capital Diamonds with the first pitch slated for 1:00.
