Game Recap: Softball |

Mac Splits in Oklahoma

Langston, Okla. – After falling in the first game of Monday's doubleheader 11-3, the Lady Bulldog softball team took the second against Langston University, 8-5.

Game 1 – L 11-3 – 5 Innings

McPherson started the day with a pair of runs in the opening inning.  Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as Langston put six on the board in the bottom half of the first.

LU scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings to increase their lead to 10-2.  The 'Dogs scored one in the top of the fifth but it was matched by Langston to end the game at 11-3.

Mac recorded seven hits and six walks in the loss.  Simone Donaldson was the lone batter to tally two hits while Emily Davis, Shelby Maycumber, and Cassandra Moreno each got aboard on a hit and a walk.

Katie Usdansky started the game on the mound for Mac but was relieved in the second.  Fellow freshman Sydney Lang finished out the game for the Bulldogs.

Game 2 – W 8-5

The Lions roared out of the gate again in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning; both were two-run shots.

McPherson was patient and, after leaving runners stranded in both the first and the second, scored their first run of the game in the third.  The hot-streak continued into the fourth where they batted around the lineup and scored four times.  Two more runs were tallied by Mac in the fifth, pushing their lead to 7-4.

LU plated a runner in the sixth which was matched by the 'Dogs in the seventh.  A three-up, three-down bottom of the inning gave MC the 8-5 win.

The Bulldogs went off for 14 hits and also drew four walks.  Katie Holmes went 3-of-3 in the game and also had a pair of walks.  Davis was 3-of-5 from the plate and scored three times.  Both Donaldson and Maycumber had a double and a single in Mac's win.  Amanda Darrow made it to first three times, once on a hit and twice via base on balls.

Lang got the complete game win, allowing 11 hits which resulted in five runs; she walked two and struck out two.

The 'Dogs get one day of rest prior to their next doubleheader.  McPherson will travel to Leavenworth, Kansas where the University of Saint Mary awaits for a 2:00 p.m. (CT) start on March 23rd.
