MC goes 2-3 at Friends Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

Wichita, Kan. – The MC softball team competed in the Friends University tournament this weekend and after losing a pair of games on Friday, came back and went 2-1 on Saturday.  The team is now 4-12 on the year.

"Our intensity was very high today which helped push us over the edge," said Coach Spencer.  "We had multiple players bear down and get the job done."

Friday, Game 1 – L 6-2

The opening game of the tournament was a very even contest.  Both teams started strong, getting runners on the base paths; in the first inning, BU scored one of theirs while Mac left the bases juiced.  Baker put another on the board in both the third and fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Mac continued to battle but unfortunately kept leaving runners stranded.  MC scored one in the sixth to make the score 4-1 with an inning to play.

The seventh was the most active of the game with the Wildcats scoring two, taking advantage of a Bulldog miscue.  McPherson put themselves in a good position to send the game to extras in the final frame of the game but they only sent one home and left two more on the bags, putting the final at 6-2.

Emily Davis, Azaria Romero, and Katie Holmes each recorded two of the team's eight hits; Romero knocked one over the fence for her first home run of the season.

Pitching the complete seven-inning game for MC was Katie Usdansky; the freshman allowed the six runs, four earned, on 12 hits and zero walks.

Friday, Game 2 – L 8-0  Six Innings

It was another game of missed chances for the Bulldogs as they left 10 on base in the six-inning loss to Langston; four untimely errors by Mac didn't help either.

MC again had a solid first inning but left two stranded.  The Lions scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings and then three more in the fifth; the run-rule came into effect once they scored one in the fifth

McPherson was able to muster up five hits with Davis logging two.  Holmes, Amanda Darrow, and Linsey Kramer each had one knock of the ball.

On the mound for Mac was freshman Sydney Lang; she surrendered 11 hits and a pair of walks while striking out four.

Saturday, Game 1 – L 9-1  Five innings

The bats weren't working for McPherson on Saturday's first contest as MC tallied just three in their 9-1 loss to Midland University.

For the third-straight game, the Bulldogs had a good first inning.  Davis doubled to kick the day off and a couple batters later and Whitney Miller brought her in to give Mac a 1-0 lead.  Unfortunately, Mac had just one more hit the rest of the game.

Midland scored one in the bottom of the second to tie the game then brought five around in the third with two coming off a MC error.  The Vikings scored two in the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth to put the run-rule into effect, ending the game at 9-1.

Kramer was the third Bulldog to log a hit for McPherson.

Lang pitched four and two-thirds innings in the loss, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits and one walk.
