Game Recap: Softball |

Offensive Struggles for MC

McPherson, Kan. – The Lady Bulldog softball team had a tough time recording hits on Saturday as they fell twice to KCAC No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 4-0 and 10-2.  McPherson tallied just six hits on the day.

Game 1 – L 4-0

The first game of the doubleheader could have been deemed a pitcher's duel as the score was just 1-0 heading into the sixth inning.  In that inning, however, the Eagles were able to string together some hits and walks to push two across the plate, increasing their advantage to 3-0.

McPherson left two on in the bottom half of the sixth.  OKWU scored the final run of the game in the seventh to put the score at 4-0.

Katie Holmes and Brittany Childs were responsible for the two MC hits.  Emily Davis, Sydney Lang, and Samantha Harrity each drew a walk and Shelby Maycumber reached on Oklahoma Wesleyan's lone error.

Lang threw the complete seven-inning game for Mac; she allowed three earned runs on nine hits and two hit batsmen.  The freshman pitcher struck out seven and walked none.

Game 2 – L 10-2 – 5 innings

In game two of the day, things were looking very similar to the first outing as the score was 2-0 in favor of the Lady Eagles heading into the fourth inning.  Unfortunately, an eight-run inning on six hits and a couple walks allowed Oklahoma Wesleyan to push their lead to 10-0.

By the time McPherson finally got rolling, it was the bottom of the fifth and they were only able to plate two which wasn't enough to prevent the run-rule from coming into effect.

The Bulldogs had just four hits, coming from Azaria Romero, Katie Usdansky, Lang, and Childs; Romero's knock of the ball was a double.

Usdansky went a full four innings on the mound; she gave up the 10 runs, eight of which were earned.  Lang closed out the game for Mac, recording a strikeout and two assists in the fifth inning.

McPherson will travel to Lindsborg, Kansas on April 20th for a 5:00 p.m. (CT) doubleheader with the Bethany College Swedes for their next outing.
