Oklahoma Wesleyan Edges Volleyball in Five-Setter

McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College volleyball team suffered its first defeat in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play Wednesday with a five-set loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan at the Sport Center.

The Bulldogs (8-3, 2-1 KCAC) dropped the first two sets to the Eagles (8-2, 3-0 KCAC) before charging back with wins in sets three and four to force a deciding fifth set. In the end, McPherson was unable to maintain the momentum as Oklahoma Wesleyan took the deciding set, 15-11, and the match, 3-2 (31-29, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 15-11). The loss snapped the Bulldogs' six-match winning streak.

Jessica Sanders (Rhome, Texas) paced the Bulldogs offensively with 15 kills. She also added an assist, two service aces, four digs and five blocks (one solo). Jocelyn Cochran (Newton, Kan.) and Lexi Kite (Thorton, Colo.) both fell just short of double-figures with nine kills apiece, while Devrie Sombers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Leia Seiler (Fort Lupton, Colo.) had eight each. Cochran added 13 digs and a block assist, while Sombers had five digs and eight blocks (two solo).

Kaitlyn Heinis (Oviedo, Fla.) (25) and Morgan Little (Las Vegas, Nev.) (19) accounted for 44 of McPherson's 48 assists and Emily Warner (Wichita, Kan.) added 25 digs. Little also had two service aces and four digs.

Three Eagles finished with double-digit kills, led by Chloe Davis with 23. Emily Hollingsworth added 17 and Hilta de Oliveira Pereira added 10. Sydney Garis posted a game-high 32 assists, while Emily Kirchner added 18. Defensively, Andrea Novakovic had 29 digs and Shanaye Nordic had 15.
