Kakebeen Scores Twice as Women's Soccer Posts Shutout at Bethany

LINDSBORG, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College women's soccer team ended a three-game skid with a 2-0 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) victory over county rival Bethany College Saturday evening at Lindstrom Field at Anderson Stadium.

Danielle Kakebeen (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., San Bernardino Valley College) accounted for both of McPherson's goals, registering an unassisted tally in the 28th minute, then scoring off a feed from Ana Guerrero (Graton, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) in the 53rd minute.

Kakebeen led McPherson (7-7, 4-5 KCAC) with three shots, while Guerrero and Dina Der Vartanian (Sierra Madre, Calif., Alverno HS) added two shots apiece. Christie Silber (Simi Valley, Calif., Simi Valley HS) was credited with three saves while recording the clean sheet.

The Swedes (6-7-1, 3-4-1 KCAC) held a slim 9-8 advantage in shots, while each team was credited with three shots on goal. Rachel Sianez and Francesca Duckworth both matched Kakebeen with a game-high three shots.

"I am very proud of tonight's result," said head coach Mark Olson. " This was the seniors' first win over Bethany and it was nice to get the shutout. Following our last game, we had two great training sessions and, tonight, the players applied what we have been working on. As a coach, you are so proud of your players when they apply in the the game what we spend so much time working on in training. We have a big game Wednesday as we are still working toward making the KCAC playoffs."

The Bulldogs return to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 25, when they host the University of Saint Mary in another KCAC matchup. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. at McPherson Stadium.
