Women's Soccer Shut Out at Friends

WICHITA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College women's soccer team was limited to seven shots, including just three on goal, in a 2-0 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) loss to Friends University at Adair-Austin Stadium.

Janae Slater scored just 40 seconds into the game to lift the Falcons (4-3-2, 2-0-1 KCAC) to an early lead. Friends  continued to test the Bulldog defense throughout the opening half, accumulating 13 shots to McPherson's three.

Bulldog goalkeeper Christie Silber (Simi Valley, Calif., Simi Valley HS) was credited with nine saves in the frame.

McPherson (4-4, 1-2 KCAC) outshot Friends, 4-3, in the second half, but it was the Falcons who were able to find the back of the net when Jazelle Gonzalez registered an unassisted tally in the 62nd minute.

Ana Guerrero (Graton, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) led the Bulldogs with three shots, while Danielle Kakebeen (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., San Bernardino Valley College), Juliana Munoz (Antelope, Calif., American River College), Rhea Vale (London, England, Blackfen Girls School) and Veronica Samaniego (Mission, Kan., Kansas City Kansas CC) added one apiece.

Silber finished with 10 saves.

Gonzalez and Dalia Fernandez each finished with a game-high four shots, while Kaylee Gatzke added three and Hannah Gallant two.

Falcon goalkeeper Lauren Ferguson registered three saves while picking up the clean sheet.

"Tonight was a typical match with Friends," said head coach Mark Olson. "It was very physical, back-and-forth, and unfortunately they scored on two highlight-type goals from distance. It's important that our players take away the positives in tonight's game so we can build for the future."

The Bulldogs will face Bethel College in another KCAC matchup at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The game will be played inside McPherson Stadium due to recent rain showers that have left the playing surface at The Kennel saturated.
