OTTAWA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College women's soccer team was eliminated from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Women's Soccer Tournament with a 4-0 quarterfinal loss to Ottawa University Saturday evening at Peoples Bank Field.
The Bulldogs (7-10), seeded seventh, were limited to just two shots against the 13th-ranked and second-seeded Braves (16-2-1).
Ottawa, which out-shot McPherson, 13-0, in the first half - struck quickly as Ashley Alonzo scored in the seventh minute off an assist from Caroline Jenkins. Jenkins added a pair of tallies five minutes apart later in the first half. The first came in the 24th minute off assists from Samantha Mendoza and Alonzo; the second came in the 29th minute off a feed from Diana Moreno.
Kayla Saucedo added another insurance goal in the 89th minute.
Ottawa finished with 21 shots, including 10 on goal.
The Braves had six corner kicks overall, including five alone in the first half. Jenkins finished with a match-high five shots, including four shots on goal, while Alonzo and Johanna Moran added four apiece.
Danielle Kakebeen (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., San Bernardino Valley College) and
Dina Der Vartanian (Sierra Madre, Calif., Alverno HS) accounted for McPherson's two shots with Kakebeen supplying the shot on goal.
Christie Silber (Simi Valley, Calif., Simi Valley HS) made six saves for McPherson. Kodie Johnson and Ireland McGuire picked up the shared shutout in goal. Johnson made the lone Ottawa save.
"I am very proud of the team we had on the field tonight," said head coach
Mark Olson. "We had a very short bench and everyone gave it their all."
Saturday's loss draws to a close the careers of four Bulldogs - two-year players Kakebeen and
Ana Guerrero (Graton, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) and four-year players
Lacy Fry (Severance, Colo., Windsor HS) and
Rhea Vale (London, England, Blackfen Girls School).
