McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- Four players finished in double figures, led by
Brooklyn Coe (Corvallis, Ore., Chemeketa CC) with 20, as the McPherson College women's basketball team remained unbeaten by routing crosstown rival Central Christian College, 115-55, Wednesday night at the Sport Center.
McPherson (4-0) was dominant in all phases of the game, holding a 57-35 edge on the glass and forcing 26 turnovers. The hosts led 30-8 after one quarter, 51-22 at the break and 87-36 after three quarters.
The Bulldogs, who shot nearly 50 percent from the field (36-of-73; 49.3 percent), were also 30-of-43 at the line and 13-of-30 from behind the arc.
The 115 points fell just shy of the program's single-game scoring record, bettered only by a 117-point outburst against Johnson & Wales University on Nov. 3, 2006. It was the third time since the 2001-02 season that the Bulldogs have reached the century mark against Central.
The Bulldogs did, however, set a new program mark for 3-pointers made in a game with 13. The old mark was 11, set on three occasions, most recently in Feb. 2015 against the University of Saint Mary.
McPherson posted the third-best single-game totals for free throws attempted, free throws made, and assists (27).
Coe scored her 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting with four 3-pointers. She also had five rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Sonerka White (Houston, Texas, Eisenhower HS) added 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting, including a 6-of-8 effort at the free throw line, and had six assists and five rebounds.
Maressah Milum (Douglass, Kan., Independence CC) and
Nicole Abunaja (Phoenix, Ariz., Desert Vista HS) had 11 points each but came about them in drastically different ways. Milum was 9-of-10 at the free throw line but just 1-of-4 from the field. Abunaja was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field with a trio of 3-pointers. Milum also had eight rebounds and four steals.
Maressah Milum (Douglass, Kan., Independence CC) and
Cami Richardson (Hesston, Kan., Hesston HS) added nine points apiece, with Battle chipping in with three steals and Richardson posting four rebounds, six assists and a steal.
Danielle Holt (Glenpool, Okla., Glenpool HS) narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.
All 13 McPherson players that suited for the game scored at least four points.
Holly Golden had team-highs with 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Central Christian College (0-2), while Abbie Banks added 15 points off the bench.
Central shot just 25 percent (16-of-64) from the field and hit just three of 20 3-point attempts, but were able to drain 20 of 27 free throws - including a 9-for-10 effort from Banks.
The Bulldogs travel to Muskogee, Oklahoma, Saturday to face Bacone College in a JV/varsity doubleheader. Tip-off for the junior varsity game is slated for 1 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at 3 p.m..
