Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Solid Nights by Richardson, Coe Push @MacBulldogsWBB Past Ottawa

McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- Cami Richardson (Hesston, Kan., Hesston HS) scored a season-high 21 points and Brooklyn Coe (Corvallis, Ore., Chemeketa CC) added 15 as the McPherson College women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 61-51 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) win over Ottawa University Saturday afternoon at the Sport Center.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 4-3 KCAC) trailed by just one point after the first quarter, but were outscored 12-5 in the second as the Braves (3-10, 1-6 KCAC) took a 26-18 lead into the break.

After being limited to 2-of-13 shooting in the second quarter, McPherson responded with a 10-of-13 effort from the field while forcing seven turnovers in the third quarter to outscore Ottawa, 26-8, and take a 10-point lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Braves managed to cut the lead to just five on a Madi McAvoy basket with 4:37 to play, but the Bulldogs scored nine of the final 13 points to take the double-digit victory.

McPherson shot 47.7 percent (21-of-44) from the field - its second-best effort of the season - with six 3-pointers. The Bulldogs were also 13-of-17 at the line, held a 30-24 advantage on the boards and had nine steals to the Braves' five.

Richardson finished just 6-of-15 from the field, but had three 3-pointers and was perfect on six free-throw attempts. She also had a game-high four assists. Coe's 15 came from a 6-for-10 effort from the field. She also hit a pair of 3-pointers and hauled in five rebounds.

Maressah Milum (Douglass, Kan., Independence CC) added eight points, while Danielle Holt (Glenpool, Okla., Glenpool HS) had three points and game-highs with 11 boards, three steals and two blocks. Brooke Racette (Hutchinson, Kan., Trinity Catholic HS) provided a solid effort defensively off the bench, matching Holt with three steals in 25 minutes as the Bulldogs employed a backcourt press and trapped extensively for much of the second half.

Jessica King led Ottawa with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Leslie Speer added 10 points and five boards. McAvoy chipped in with nine points - including a pair of 3-pointers - in seven minutes off the bench.

The Braves were held to 40 percent (20-of-50) shooting from the field and were just 4-of-16 from behind the arc and 7-of-11 at the line.

McPherson closes out its pre-holiday slate Tuesday evening by hosting York College (4-9, 1-6 KCAC) in another KCAC matchup. The Panthers are coming off back-to-back home losses to Bethany (76-42) and Friends (83-48). Please note that the tip-off for Tuesday has been moved up one hour to 5 p.m.
