Baseball Topped by Texas Wesleyan, 10-2

FORT WORTH, Texas (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College baseball team dropped back to .500 overall with a 10-2 loss to Texas Wesleyan Sunday morning at Sycamore Park.

The game was the first of a scheduled doubleheader. Game two was cancelled due to the potential for inclement weather the rest of the day.

The Bulldogs (6-6) had an opportunity in the second inning after Reily Martin (Auburn, Kan., Hayden HS) reached on a one-out triple to center field. The threat was erased when Martin was doubled off third after Bryce Strecker (Hutchinson, Kan., Trinity Catholic HS) popped out on a bunt.

The Rams (8-3) took advantage in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits and one Bulldog error.

McPherson responded with a run in the third as Jakob Shields scored on an RBI single to left field by Evan Willow. The Bulldogs had a pair of hits in the inning, but left the bases loaded.

Texas Wesleyan continued on the offensive in the third inning, scoring three more runs without recording an out to chase McPherson starter Soren Yarnall (Tustin, Calif., Santa Ana College) from the game.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Bulldogs tallied another run in the fifth when Jackson Goodmiller (St. George, Kan., Rock Creek HS) scored on a Dylan Klava (Douglas, Wyo., Colby CC) sacrifice fly after leading off the inning with a triple down the right-field line.

TWU tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. McPherson had two hits and left one on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not push another run across.

The Bulldogs used six pitchers in the contest with Yarnall taking the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits and a pair of walks while striking out one in two innings.

Nine different McPherson players had base hits with the triples by Goodmiller and Martin accounting for the visitor's only extra-base hits. McPherson hit into three double plays in the contest.

Alex Lopez scattered nine hits and two walks in a complete-game effort, allowing just two runs while striking out four.

Four Rams had two hits each, led by Kiki Menendez's 2-for-2 effort with three RBIs and two runs scored. Alex Gudac was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Bulldogs, who are in the midst of a stretch of 14 (now 13) straight games away from Light Capital Diamond, take to the road again Tuesday to face Southwestern Christian University in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one from Eagle Field at Dolese Park in Bethany, Oklahoma, is slated for 1 p.m.
