Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bulldogs Lose Heart Breaker to York In Overtime

York, NE – It was another tough day on the pitch for the McPherson College women's soccer team as they lost a 1-0 decision in overtime to the York College Panthers.

As has been the case most of the season, the Bulldogs hung tough defensively, but couldn't find a way to generate any offense. The Panthers peppered the Bulldog goal 17 times, but Christie Silber (So. Simi Valley, Calif.) came up big for the Mac ladies time and time again. She finished the game with 16 saves, and in the process set a new record for most saves in a season. She now has 126 on the year, eclipsing the old mark of 111.

Offensively the Bulldogs were only able to put three shots on frame, 1 in the first half, and two in the second. The defense played valiantly, even after having to go down a player after Dina Der Vartanian (Jr. Sierra Madre, Calif.) was shown a red card, after a scuffle with a York Player, but could only hold out so long. After 90 minutes of regulation, the teams headed into overtime. In the 5th minute of the first overtime session, the Panthers' Jazmin Pineda ended the game with a header that snuck past Silber.

'I'm very proud of our players' efforts in today's match", said MC head coach Mark Olson. "The team stuck together and played as one while being a player down throughout the second half.  Despite being down a player the team did a good job connecting passes to maintain some possession." Olson lauded the paly of Silber saying, "Congratulations to Christie who broke the single season saves records in today's match. She has played very well throughout the season to record the number of saves she has had to make."

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-13-1 on the year, and 1-8-1 in the KCAC. The Bulldogs will be back on the pitch on Saturday when they host the Avila College Eagles for Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 at McPherson Stadium.
