Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to 6th Ranked OKWU

By Drew Brunecz
The McPherson College men's basketball team lost 78-59 to a 6th ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan team on Wednesday in their conference home opener.

The first half did not go as hoped for the Bulldog faithful. At the end of the first half, OKWU was leading Mac 44-30. One of the biggest struggles in this half was turning the ball over, as the Bulldogs ended up with 12 turnovers after one half of play. They took care of the ball better in the second half, finishing the game with 16 turnovers total.

Shooting was another struggle for McPherson, especially from beyond the arc. They shot 34% from the floor, and only 13% from beyond the three-point line. For comparison, the Eagles shot 44% from the floor, and made 39% of their threes

Lual Magot (Jr. Tucson, Ariz.) was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs. He came off the bench to score 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the floor. Chamaje Barideaux (So. New Iberia, La.) was not too far behind with 10 points of his own. Grant Owens (Fr. Buhler, Kan.) was the leading rebounder for McPherson, totaling nine rebounds in only 19 minutes of play. Frederick Watts (So. Houston, Texas) and Owens were co-leaders in assists, both with two.

"Oklahoma Wesleyan is an outstanding team.", said Bulldog head coach Tim Swartzendruber. "We had great effort tonight but overall our poor shooting and turnovers cost us. We need to move on and be ready for Avila Saturday."

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 3-2 on the season. They will try to bounce back as they travel to Kansas City on Saturday, November 17th to play Avila University at 5:00 PM.
