Bulldogs Fall on the Road at Kansas Wesleyan

Drew Brunecz

The Bulldogs struggled on Monday night, losing on the road to Kansas Wesleyan 72-55. For the Bulldogs (5-4, 0-4), it was their fourth loss in as many games, and left them still looking for their first conference win of the season.

It was another poor shooting night overall, for the Mac ladies, as they only shot 30% from the floor, and went 0-18 from beyond the three-point line. Shots just wouldn't fall for the Bulldogs, even in close. This led to an early deficit, one they couldn't dig themselves out of.

They trailed by 16 after the first 10 minutes, and by the halftime intermission, the Coyote lead had ballooned to 17, 40-23. The second half was dead even, with both teams scoring 32 points, but the damage had been done in the opening half.

One of the main issues for the Bulldogs tonight was ball control. In four quarters they turned the ball over 19 times, leading to 13 points for KWU. One of the positives for the Bulldogs was their job on the offensive glass. The Bulldogs grabbed 14 offensive rebounds, and then turned those rebounds into 18 points.

Sonerka White (Sr. Houston, Texas) was both the leading scorer for McPherson with nine points, and she also had five rebounds. Danielle Holt (Jr. Glenpool, Okla.) was the leading rebounder with 10 total rebounds, and came up just 3 points shy of a double double with 7 points.

The Bulldogs will try and put this one in the rear view mirror quickly. They will attempt to get back to their winning ways on this upcoming Thursday, when they travel to Sterling, Kan., for a shot at the Sterling College Warriors. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm.
