McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) ---
Trevor Haycock (New Iberia, La., New Iberia Sr. HS) hit two home runs and the McPherson College baseball team pounded out 25 hits as the Bulldogs opened a weekend series against Manhattan Christian College with a 22-0, 7-inning win Friday afternoon at Bulldog Park.
The Bulldogs (21-13) sent at least nine batters to the plate in all but the fifth inning, plating five in the first and third frames and four in the second and fourth to build an 18-0 lead.Â
After
Jackson Goodmiller (St. George, Kan., Rock Creek HS)Â reached on base hit to open the McPherson half of the first, Haycock sent the first pitch he saw over the fence in left field.
Dominick Ramos (Fresno, Calif., Hartnell College) and
Reily Martin (Auburn, Kan., Hayden HS) followed with RBI singles, while
Dylan Fontenot (Carencro, La., Carencro HS) added an RBI triple.
Goodmiller bunted for a base hit to lead off the second, then came across when Haycock again went deep to left. Fontenot and
Mark Strebin (Westville, Ill., Danville Area CC)Â chipped in with RBI singles.
Haycock was kept in the park in the third but still managed to drive in Goodmiller for the third time in the game. Ramos added another RBI single before Strebin cleared the bases with a 3-run shot to left-center. The total could have been higher, but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the frame.
McPherson began to substitute beginning in the fourth but that didn't keep the Bulldogs from scoring. Reserve
Justin Risdall (Colorado Springs, Colo., Vista Ridge HS)Â hit a 3-run homer to left, while
Hunter Dreiling (Goddard, Kan., Eisenhower HS) added an RBI double. It was the first varsity hit for both players.
Risdall picked up two more RBIs in the final two innings - driving in
Trevor Johnson (San Diego, Calif., Helix HS) with a single to short in the fifth, then drawing a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Haycock also had an RBI single, while
Kyle Wedel (Wasco, Calif., Taft College)Â picked up an RBI when he was pegged by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Haycock finished 4-for-5 with six RBIs and four runs scored, while Goodmiller was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. He also drew a walk before being subbed out for Dreiling in the third.
Seven other Bulldogs had multiple hits with Risdall finishing with five RBIs, Strebin four and Ramos and Fontenot two apiece.
Three Bulldog pitchers limited the Thunder (0-17) to just one hit - a Kole Johnston single to right off starter
Chad Gotto (Fresno, Calif., West Hills CC) in the second inning.Â
Gotto also walked two and struck out a Bulldog Park-record 11 batters over five innings to get the win.
Austin Roark (Tulsa, Okla., Memorial HS) walked one with two strikeouts in the sixth, while
Jay Hill (Wichita, Kan., Campus HS) struck out two in a perfect seventh inning.
McPherson's totals for hits, runs and RBIs all set Bulldog Park records, while Haycock's six RBIs also set a new high water mark for a McPherson player at the new park.
The teams complete the three-game series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch for game one at Bulldog Park is slated for noon.
