Men's Tennis Stops Southwestern

WINFIELD, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 22nd-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play with a 6-3 win Thursday over Southwestern College at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex.

McPherson (5-3, 2-0 KCAC) took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play as Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas) topped Lucas Rocha and Alex Bernades, 8-4, at the top spot and Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium) posted an 8-2 win over Sheldon Hawthorne and Tomas Yacuzio at No. 2. The Moundbuilders (6-5, 0-1 KCAC) grabbed the point at No. 3 doubles as Franco Poi and Aaron Hartley edged Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceo Taller San Miguel) and James Lee (Cambridge, England, Freman College) by an 8-4 score.

The Bulldogs closed out the match with straight-set wins from Turley, Bodin and Jimenez at Nos. 2, 3 & 4 singles, respectively, while Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven) added a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) victory over Hawthorne at No. 6 singles. 

Southwestern captured a pair of singles victories as Poi topped Lahlou, the No. 26-ranked NAIA singles player by a 6-2, 6-4 score, and Rocha defeated Huber, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.

McPherson returns to the courts at 1 p.m. Saturday, facing Tabor College at the McPherson High School courts in the first of three straight home matches.

Note: The KCAC notified McPherson during the week that the Bulldogs' match with Friends must be contested. A new date for that match has not been determined. McPherson had originally assumed a 9-0 league win in the "no-contest" due to Friends' lack of available players.
