No. 23 Men's Tennis Takes Control of KCAC Race With 6-3 Win Over RV Bethany

SALINA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The No. 23-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team put itself in the driver's seat for a second consecutive Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) regular-season title with a 6-3 win over RV Bethany College Sunday morning at Genesis Health Club.

The Bulldogs (9-3, 6-0 KCAC) swept through doubles play as Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bon Salvador) teamed for an 8-2 win over Andreas Ricaurte and Ryan Telesford at the top spot and Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium) toppled Hugo Pallez and Edward Sengai, 8-5, at the No. 2 spot. Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas) and Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven) completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory over Nino Krneta and Teodor Antelj at No. 3 doubles.

Lahlou brought McPherson within a point of clinching the victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Krneta at No. 1 singles, while Carrillo put the Bulldogs over the top with a 7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-3 win over Pallez at the No. 3 spot.

Antelj put the Swedes (11-1, 6-1 KCAC) on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Turley at No. 2, while Bodin countered with a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (6) win over Miguel Abete at No. 4.

Sengai defeated Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceo Taller San Miguel), 9-7, at No. 5 and Ricaurte beat Huber, 8-6, at No. 6 to close out the match.

The women's match that was scheduled for Sunday has been moved to 4 p.m. Monday afternoon at the on-campus Doris Coppock Tennis Courts.

The McPherson men will have two, possibly three, matches in the upcoming week to close out KCAC play. The Bulldogs will host Oklahoma Wesleyan University Tuesday afternoon before making the short trip to North Newton on Wednesday to face Bethel College. First serve for both matches is slated for 3 p.m. McPherson also has a make-up match against Friends tentatively scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
