Bulldogs Extend Win Streak to 5 Games with Win at St. Mary

Article by Quincy Williams

Leavenworth, Kan. - The Bulldogs found themselves in the midst of a no-holds-barred shootout Saturday afternoon against the University of Saint Mary. Luckily, they have a verified gunslinger in Ed Crouch (Sr. Miami Gardens, Fla.), who led them to a 49-27 victory that improved their record to 5-3 (including a 5-2 record in KCAC play).

Crouch was masterful, hitting on 16 of 26 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns, he also ran one in. Any recap of the game would be remiss if it didn't recount LaMeshio Hill's day (Jr. Rialto, Calif.), as he rushed 10 times for 95 yards, and Matari Bodie Jr (R-Fr. Miami Gardens, Fla.), added a 32-yard touchdown scamper.

The Bulldogs run defense was top-notch today, as they only allowed 3.1 yards per carry. The Bulldogs vaunted pass defense wasn't as dominant as usual, they gave up 262 passing yards; through 7 games the Bulldogs were only allowing 121 yards per game. However, they made timely plays including a huge interception from Cameron Jones (So. Harrison, Ark.), that he returned for 68 yards. Eman McNeal (Sr. Aurora, Colo.) and Ben Nikkel (So. McPherson, Kan.), both had huge receiving performances, 3 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown and 3 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown respectively. McNeal also made a heads-up play and recovered a teammate's fumble for a touchdown.

The Bulldogs have a huge KCAC game next weekend against the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes at Graves Family Sports Complex in Salina, Kansas. The Coyotes are 8-0 after a nail-biter 48-47 win today over Avila University. The Bulldogs have won five games in a row and will go into the matchup with a high degree of confidence.
