Salina, Kan. - The McPherson College women's soccer team fell to Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday night. It was an intense game for the Bulldogs on the road, and one of their toughest challenges of the season so far.
The first forty-five minutes almost proved to be scoreless until the 39th minute, where Kansas Wesleyan scored off of a corner kick header in the goal box. Kansas Wesleyan had four corner kick opportunities in the first half, and McPherson did not have any. As far as shot opportunities go, McPherson had one on frame by
Jordan Bruner (Jr. McPherson, Kan.). Kansas Wesleyan had four shots on goal, giving
Christie Silber (Jr. Simi Valley, Calif.) three saves for the first half.
Head Coach
Mark Olson said, "I was not pleased with how we performed tonight. We have not given up goals from set-pieces, and tonight KWU capitalized on their corners."
The second half proved to be challenging for the bulldogs and were down two at the 57th minute. Once more, it was a corner kick header in the goal box. In the 77th minute, a Kansas Wesleyan player scored the team's third goal off of another corner kick; giving them a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs had one shot on target for the half by
Marissa Zamora (Sr. Chester, Calif.). Silber saved six shots in the second half, giving her nine for the game. In the end, the Bulldogs lost 3-0.
Olson added, "I am confident that these players will bounce back and be ready to play against Bethel."
As Coach Olson mentioned, the Bulldog's next game is October 16 against Bethel at home. The Bulldog and Threshers will used the game to raise awareness for juvenile diabetes.
